Bunker Procurement Manager

Our client is a Chinese shipowner. They are looking for a bunker procurement manager to join their team.


Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the end-to-end procurement process of marine fuel for a fleet of vessels.

  • Identify competitive quotations, assess pricing, and secure supplier confirmations with internal approvals.

  • Manage supplier performance, focusing on key operational indicators such as fuel quality, quantity, and overall service standards.

  • Investigate and resolve issues related to bunker delivery and operations.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and monitoring of all bunker-related transactions and activities.

  • Coordinate with Masters, Fleet Operations Managers, and Technical Superintendents to ensure vessel fuel requirements are met.

  • Issue bunker nominations to suppliers and coordinate with all relevant stakeholders including agents, vessels, and internal departments. Track progress until bunkering is completed.

  • Possess solid knowledge of bunkering operations and marine fuel quality/quantity concerns, with a commercial mindset being an advantage.

  • Understanding of operational analysis and optimization tools (e.g. linear programming) used in fuel procurement planning is preferred.

  • Proactive, solution-oriented individual capable of working independently to troubleshoot and resolve issues.

  • Manage both routine and unexpected daily tasks efficiently.

  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with various internal and external parties.

  • Leverage operational data and trends to recommend process improvements and cost-saving initiatives.

  • Provide forward pricing estimates and assist with negotiating hedge transactions where applicable.

  • Collaborate with leadership to enhance workflows and contribute to policy development.

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned by management.

Requirements:

  • Diploma or Degree, ideally in logistics, maritime studies, economics, or related fields.

  • 6-8 years relevant experience in marine fuel procurement or trading.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical and analytical tasks, with a strong ability to prioritize work effectively.

  • Solid track record within the maritime or shipping industry.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; able to build positive working relationships.

  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and a strong team player.

  • Skilled in negotiation and vendor management.

  • Proficient with MS Office; familiarity with maritime operations software (e.g. IMOS) is a plus.
