💼 The Honest Recruiter: Fast Hires Can Create Slow Problems

There’s always pressure to move quickly in hiring.
Roles open up, workloads stretch thin, and urgency starts to set the pace. The question becomes, “How soon can we get someone in?” instead of “Who do we actually need?”
Speed feels efficient, but it can come at a quiet cost.
Recently, I spoke with a few business leaders across different industries. Interestingly, they all echoed the same sentiment: finding the right person matters far more than filling the role quickly. The wrong hire, even if made fast, only delays real progress.
I’ve seen this play out before. A candidate is hired, but they weren’t properly vetted. A few weeks in, hiring managers begin to wonder: “Why is this person so different from the one we met during the interview?”
They struggle with the work.
They don’t match expectations.
And the team starts to feel the weight of a poor fit.
As a recruiter, I often put myself in the hiring manager’s shoes, not just to understand the role, but to ask myself: Would this person truly thrive in this environment? Would I be confident if they were on my own team?
It’s not about rushing to fill a vacancy. It’s about being intentional with who steps in. Because the right candidate isn’t just capable, they align with the team’s rhythm, values, and way of working.
✨ Thought to consider:
A few extra days upfront can save months of misalignment and frustration.
Hiring fast fills a seat.
Hiring right builds a team.
